If there is a war as a result of the American proposed bombing of Syria, this Op-Ed is going to be a very important historical document — the leader of Russia trying to warn Americans about our out of control government.
MOSCOW — RECENT events surrounding Syria have prompted me to speak directly to the American people and their political leaders. It is important to do so at a time of insufficient communication between our societies.
Here’s where the Kegebeshnik and martial artist delivers the finishing move:
My working and personal relationship with President Obama is marked by growing trust. I appreciate this. I carefully studied his address to the nation on Tuesday. And I would rather disagree with a case he made on American exceptionalism, stating that the United States’ policy is “what makes America different. It’s what makes us exceptional.” It is extremely dangerous to encourage people to see themselves as exceptional, whatever the motivation. There are big countries and small countries, rich and poor, those with long democratic traditions and those still finding their way to democracy. Their policies differ, too. We are all different, but when we ask for the Lord’s blessings, we must not forget that God created us equal.
Vladimir V. Putin is the president of Russia.
This is an amazing moment in history. American and Jewish post-war hubris is coming to a head.
In a display of Jewish hubris-chutzpah, Jeffrey Goldberg calls Putin’s Op-Ed “chutzpah.”

The Vladimir Putin op-ed in the @nytimes may contain more chutzpah per square inch than any op-ed in history.
Now that’s chutzpah! Putin is saying, “yeah, war’s not a good idea, let’s try to resolve this without more violence and avoid this spreading into a wider war.” I think that’s called “statesmanship” or something. Even if Russia didn’t have nukes, it would still be a formidable military power.
The neocons are the very definition of chutzpah and failing upward. Their criminal wars of choice have been a spectacular and costly failure. They are all war criminals. And they call Putin’s Op-Ed chutzpah.
