Revolution is Evolution at its boiling point

Good article by leftist Chris Hedges on social evolution and it’s eruption into political revolution.

I think that Hedges imagines that the post-revolutionary society will be Cultural Marxist. Absolutely not. Any period of deprivation and difficulty leads to a culturally conservatism. Cultural Marxism can only happen in the hothouse of jazzy economic growth.

Deprivation and difficulty forces people to organize for survival. As Kunstler says, nobody is going to have time for worrying about racial equality or gay rights. That’s going to be one big payoff for all the suffering that will come.

It appears that political ferment is dormant in the United States. This is incorrect. The ideas that sustain the corporate state are swiftly losing their efficacy across the political spectrum. The ideas that are rising to take their place, however, are inchoate. The right has retreated into Christian fascism and a celebration of the gun culture. The left, knocked off balance by decades of fierce state repression in the name of anti-communism, is struggling to rebuild and define itself. Popular revulsion for the ruling elite, however, is nearly universal. It is a question of which ideas will capture the public’s imagination.

Revolution usually erupts over events that would, in normal circumstances, be considered meaningless or minor acts of injustice by the state. But once the tinder of revolt has piled up, as it has in the United States, an insignificant spark easily ignites popular rebellion. No person or movement can ignite this tinder. No one knows where or when the eruption will take place. No one knows the form it will take. But it is certain now that a popular revolt is coming. The refusal by the corporate state to address even the minimal grievances of the citizenry, along with the abject failure to remedy the mounting state repression, the chronic unemployment and underemployment, the massive debt peonage that is crippling more than half of Americans, and the loss of hope and widespread despair, means that blowback is inevitable.

“Because revolution is evolution at its boiling point you cannot ‘make’ a real revolution any more than you can hasten the boiling of a tea kettle,” Berkman wrote. “It is the fire underneath that makes it boil: how quickly it will come to the boiling point will depend on how strong the fire is.”

Revolutions, when they erupt, appear to the elites and the establishment to be sudden and unexpected. This is because the real work of revolutionary ferment and consciousness is unseen by the mainstream society, noticed only after it has largely been completed. Throughout history, those who have sought radical change have always had to first discredit the ideas used to prop up ruling elites and construct alternative ideas for society, ideas often embodied in a utopian revolutionary myth. The articulation of a viable socialism as an alternative to corporate tyranny—as attempted by the book “Imagine: Living in a Socialist USA”and the website Popular Resistance—is, for me, paramount. Once ideas shift for a large portion of a population, once the vision of a new society grips the popular imagination, the old regime is finished.

An uprising that is devoid of ideas and vision is never a threat to ruling elites. Social upheaval without clear definition and direction, without ideas behind it, descends into nihilism, random violence and chaos. It consumes itself. This, at its core, is why I disagree with some elements of the Black Blocanarchists. I believe in strategy. And so did many anarchists, including Berkman, Emma Goldman, Pyotr Kropotkin and Mikhail Bakunin.

  1. Actual socialism- as opposed to the third world fake version- is a luxury product of advanced European civilizations (and Japan). Highly productive people produce a surplus that can be taken and spread around for social purposes. The population has to consent, at least partially. There is no great desire among humans to have their surplus moved to people not like them, who don’t behave like them, don’t obey the same rules as them, and hate them.

The white progressive faction sees this as good business for them, and practical as they live in cities with lots of non-whites they want to keep doped up on fries and soda. But the white traditionalist faction, while totally defeated politically and culturally, simply can’t bear the burden any more.

  2. This is embarrassingly old-fashioned, standard MArxist shit this guy has written. “The water doesn’t look that hot until it boils.” That’s a very old Communist line.

Revolution will coincide with civil war in America. There is no other way. The meanest group will win. The “ruling elite,” when it boils down to it, will NOT support the Brown Cloud in a situation involving widespread violence. They will support those who will keep them SAFE from the Brown Cloud. America’s “revolution” will be very South American in that sense. The Right–the brutal, armed Right–will be ascendant.

I was watching a video in which a group of persons were chanting, “Death, death, death to the Nazis”, when it occurred to me that the people they were calling “Nazis” were almost certainly better armed than they. These leftists want the risks of attacking borne by someone else. They also shy from the responsibility of doing it themselves; whoever they get to perform the violence for them will be treated with contempt as moral lessers .
The Left favors its bombs, whether air-delivered or IED. If you use a bomb or a drone, you destroy without discrimination. If you use a firearm, you have the choice of harming only those you intend to.

      Israel immediately comes to mind.

  4. Skeeter says:

Socialism, like Christianity, comes in many different brands. The social Marxists’ brand of socialism — in which whitey picks up the check and everyone else gets the goodies — is not socialism at all but, rather, is simple parasitism, something all true socialists should be against.

Racial — or racist — socialism, which is what National Socialism should’ve originally been called in the first place, is socialism within a unicultural context (as opposed to the current de facto multicultural socialism all over the West) and is probably the only brand of socialism with long-term viability. Multicultural socialism’s not viable in the long run because those paying the taxes (mostly whites in the West, but it could be others elsewhere) sense in their guts that they’re paying for public goods and services they either don’t agree with (e.g. a lot of the public school curricula) or can’t enjoy in safety and comfort (e.g. public buses), and do all they can to get out of paying for it.

But if you view “Triumph of the Will,” you’ll notice Uncle Adolf in his speech near the beginning (if memory serves), that he advocates classlessness within the volk, basically saying no one’s too good to dig ditches and do sweat-inducing manual labor. I agree another comment on this thread that some people are much more productive than others, but it’s physically impossible to so astronomically more productive than everyone else to justify the income gaps between, say, CEOs and the average workers at their companies. Lots of people work hard, but no one deserves that kind of money. And the idea that everything done in the private sector is bunk, too.

    • Skeeter says:

Last sentence should’ve been “And the idea that everything done in the private sector is more efficient is bunk, too.”
Especially in this age of private contractors milking fat, juicy government contracts. See any big public works project done by private contractors for evidence …

      • Mr. Rational says:

Corporate America was noticeably better-run when CEOs made 20x the average wage of their employees, instead of today’s 400x.

      • oscar the grinch says:

“Corporate America was noticeably better-run when CEOs made 20x the average wage of their employees”

The more relevant metric is, corporate American was better-run when it was less fully infested with YKW vampires.

    • Anon says:

” I agree another comment on this thread that some people are much more productive than others, but it’s physically impossible to so astronomically more productive than everyone else to justify the income gaps between, say, CEOs and the average workers at their companies. ” – The reason for that massive gap is the destruction of labor scarcity brought on by mass immigration. That problem solves itself once the parasites are thrown off.

    “. . .Racial — or racist — socialism. . .”

The Pledge of Allegiance was written by a national socialist/racist/christian named Francis Bellamy (1892).

  6. TabuLa Raza says:

    The Pledge of Allegiance
THE CATHOLIC KNIGHT: Long before the Knights of Columbus added the venerable phrase “under God” to the Pledge of Allegiance, there was another curious element to the Pledge’s recitation that has been conveniently (and quite intentionally) scrubbed from the history books.

Francis Bellamy (1855–1931), a socialist, was hired by a flag company in 1892 to write a ‘pledge’ to the American flag, which was to be used as part of a marketing campaign to sell more flags to America’s public schools. The Pledge of Allegiance, as it came to be called, was accompanied by a peculiar salute, called the Bellamy salute, in which children were encouraged to raise their hands in a military salute style and then extend them outward at the phrase “to the flag” in a straight line toward the flag as the photos below demonstrate. Remember, these are AMERICAN school children saluting the AMERICAN flag. This practice was widespread and virtually universal in America’s public school systems for fifty years…

Before the Nazis, and before the Italian fascists, American school children were performing this salute every weekday morning in classrooms all across America. In fact, it was imitated by many countries shortly thereafter, including our neighbour to the south — Mexico — which they still use today. European fascists also imitated Americans in the Bellamy salute, desiring to add to the pomp and pageantry of their nationalistic displays. It wasn’t until 1942, after America’s entry into World War II, that Congress retired the Bellamy salute by officially amending the US flag code to include the hand-over-heart gesture during the full recitation of the pledge. Keep in mind, this gesture demanded by the flag code was designed to get rid of something — the Bellamy Salute — which had become an embarrassment to the United States after its entry into World War II. The Bellamy Salute was then buried in history, omitted from official reference, and practically banned from the history books. The fact remains however, Americans invented the very gesture that later came to be strictly associated with 20th century European fascism. Of course when Americans did it, it did not carry the same meaning as with European fascists, but it was nevertheless a method used to indoctrinate American school children in the common practice of saluting a flag in a very militaristic way, which of course was designed to unify American school children after the horrors of the Civil War and Reconstruction. When it comes to Nazi-style gestures, we Americans have a distinct bragging right — we did it first! Now you know THE REST of the story.

Knew about the old style salute. Interesting history about Bellamy THe stiff arm salute is very manly. People who stiff arm salute a flag are going to be naturally more loyal and dedicated to it than someone who merely puts a hand over the heart.

Chris Hedges knows about the Banksters. The moment he points out their ethnic origins, he will erased from any relavance and quickly taken down.
