A graphic for the shale oil rescue remedy cornucopians

I still hear some people saying Shale Oil is making us Saudi America. My verbal explanations have not been able to penetrate their wishful thinking. So someone drew a picture to illustrate “Saudi America” and “drill baby drill.”

From Kunstler’s Year End CF Nation post

Now, a number of stories have been employed lately to keep all these rackets going — or, at least, keep up the morale of the swindled masses. They issue from the corporations, government agencies, and a lazy, wishful media. Their purpose is to prop up the lie that the dying economy of yesteryear is alive and well, and can continue “normal” operation indefinitely. Here are the favorites of the past year:

Shale oil and gas amount to an “energy renaissance” that will keep supplies of affordable fossil fuels flowing indefinitely, will make us “energy independent,” and will make us “a bigger producer than Saudi Arabia.” This is all mendacious bullshit with a wishful thinking cherry on top. Here’s how shale oil is different from conventional oil:

The truth is that we still have a huge, deadly energy problem. Shale oil is not cheap oil, and it will stop seeming abundant soon. If the price of oil goes much above $100 a barrel, which you’d think would be great for the oil companies, it will crash demand for oil. If it crashes demand, the price will go down, hurting the profitability of the shale oil companies. It’s quite a predicament. Right now, in the $90-100-a-barrel range, it’s just slowly bleeding the economy while barely allowing the shale oil producers to keep up all the drilling. Two-thirds of all the dollars invested (more than $120 billion a year) goes just to keep production levels flat. Blogger Mark Anthony summarized it nicely:

…the shale oil and gas developers tend to use unreliable production models to project unrealistically high EURs (Estimated Ultimate Recovery) of their shale wells. They then use the over-estimated EURs to under-calculate the amortization costs of the capital spending, in order to report “profits”, despite of the fact that they have to keep borrowing more money to keep drilling new wells, and that capital spending routinely out paces revenue stream by several times… shale oil and gas producers tend to over-exaggerate productivity of their wells, under-estimate the well declines…in order to pitch their investment case to banks and investors, so they can keep borrowing more money to keep drilling shale wells.

If it was up to Marine LePen’s rising National Front party, they would solve the employment problem by expelling all the recent immigrants — though the mere attempt would probably provoke widespread race war in France.

More doom at link.

The problem with peak oil is the same problem that the SPers have with the finances.

The collapse comes if the USG allows nature to run its course. The USG will not do that. They make the money, they control the media. They will pass the costs onto average Americans until they can’t anymore. But they can do it for quite a long time.

“The economy” is an invention made to serve the elite. It has little to do with the health of a nation or a people. The USG can make the economy rise or fall at its pleasure; either by printing money or by printing more lies.

I too used to believe in doom. They will kick the can as far as they can. Right now I’d say they have another 30 years, minimum. I understand this “objective” worldview but we live in a very artificial cage. I suggest that you, MW, set a date. “If the economy doesn’t collapse (whatever “collapse” means) by 2015, I will dump the doomer POV.”

I still shoot for 2025, you’ll be amazed how much inflation people will put up with.

      • Ryu says:

Alright! 2018. I’ll remember that:) Hillary will be in office.

        @MW

        OK. 2018.

        Hi guys,

I hate to bring this up, but it’s a week past the new year, 2014, and far from gold being over $2,000 an oz, it’s actually $1,241 an oz, nearly $500 less than it was a year and a half ago, when this bet was made. So somebody owes me two silver dollars. With silver being at $20.00 an oz – almost *half* of what it was just two short years ago (when I sold) – that’s only a measly $40.

As you said, it always pays to bet with the status quo.

If anyone wants to bring up paper vs. physical, email hipsterracist@yahoo.com – I will ship physical gold or silver to your home or work address for less than 10% above spot.

      • mindweapon says:

I owe you a silver round buddy. Send me a mailing address, it’ll be on the way. Wait, do I owe you two? I thought it was one, but that’s fine.

“collapse” can be invented to serve the elite as well. if “the economy” “collapses”, during my lifetime, most likely it will be intentional, engineered, and we (we) will come out much worse afterwards

It was worth reading just to see JHK use the term “vampire squid” without actually understanding the origin of the word.

My biggest beef with the Kunt is his hatred of the very people who are capable of making his world made by hand.
    Funny, that.

    • Peter Blood says:

Another beef is the guy thinks that the “happy motoring world” is by choice. People left the cities for the suburbs so they wouldn’t have to deal with negroes (also leaving huge swaths of valuable property degraded and worthless–I bet the jews bought that property at a discount!).

    Hello MW :

Sorry in advance this is a bit O/t, but I just had to alert you to this (unless you’ve already seen it) :

    Check out this vid :

    http://www.liveleak.com/view?i=537_1388943811

The vast majority of the people I know – friends and family alike – would reply “That’s so racist!” if I were to send them this video link.

Obviously that is not the point of my posting this video, and commenting upon it.

The point is this : the woman with the blond wig, whose own children use that wig to humiliate her and beat her with it (as much as a wig can be used to beat someone), this woman is obviously foreign-born.

Listen carefully to the accent: she’s Jamaican, probably. Or thereabouts.

    …/…

This is an extremely interesting and alarming reality: it is proof that the dysgenic impulses that run through the veins of Obama’s chirren is 100% race-based, biologically hard-wired behavior.

Just think for a moment how much explosive anger and contempt those pre-teen siblings would have to possess towards their “Mom”, in order to attack her so viciously in a public place.

Perhaps there’s more to the story: perhaps these are foster kids and blonde-wig Jamaican lady is not their biological mother.

Either way it matters little: the failed policies of wishful-thinking liberal doctrine enable this sort of dysfunction; things are only going to get way more WalMart Anthro 101 before they get better.

Sorry to be so gloomy, but it seems true.

    Sincerely,

    – Arturo

ps: Pls stand by for that long-awaited manifesto. Sorry for the d-lay.

Kunstler has made a fetish of oil doom, and repeatedly makes hysterical failed prophecies. He looks forward longingly to a collapse. I think he relishes the idea of the white motoring world collapsing and fat NASCAR-loving cornpone Nazis wailing and crying in their SUVs in the Wal-Mart parking lot.

I think his point really is to warn the tribe to be ready to deal with whites (his “cornpone Nazis”) when the time comes.

A slow collapse, say, 100 years, would disappoint him to no end, it’s too boring.
